Frequently Asked Questions
Learn how our membership-based care works, what it includes, and how we deliver personalized, relationship-based care.
-
You can make an appointment through our scheduling portal.
-
We understand that life happens, and we will always do our best to work with you. Every appointment represents time that has been set aside exclusively for you and, equally, time that could have been offered to another patient who needs care.
For this reason, we ask that cancellations be made with as much notice as possible. Same-day cancellations should be avoided whenever possible. If you cancel on the same day more than twice, a cancellation fee may apply or future scheduling may be affected.
We extend one no-show courtesy to every patient because we know that circumstances sometimes make it impossible to reach us in time. After that first no-show, the full visit fee will be charged, as that time cannot be recovered.
If something comes up on the day of your appointment, please know that many visits can be converted to telehealth at short notice. This is often the simplest solution, and we are happy to make that accommodation whenever it is clinically appropriate.

Althea Gynecology & Pelvic Health is a direct care practice that does not bill insurance for office visits. Payment is collected in advance through our patient portal.
We chose this model because it allows us to spend the time each patient genuinely needs, without the constraints that insurance-based practice places on the length and depth of your care. This also means you know how much your care costs. There are no surprise bills.
Depending on your plan, you may be able to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) toward eligible visits and procedures.
If desired, we can provide a detailed superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
If you have Medicare, you can still be seen at Althea. However, our clinic is not contracted with Medicare, and you will be responsible for the cost of your care. You cannot submit superbills to Medicare for reimbursement.
-
We do not accept walk-ins, but we can, in many cases, offer same-day or next-day appointments scheduled through our patient portal.
-
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
-
Payment for your visit is collected in advance through our patient portal, making the process as seamless as possible before you arrive.
Occasionally, a procedure may be recommended during your visit that was not anticipated at the time of booking. In those cases, any additional fees will be collected at the end of your appointment by credit card or personal check.
We will always discuss any additional costs with you before proceeding, so you know what to expect.

Althea Gynecology & Pelvic Health is a focused specialty practice, and part of offering excellent care is being clear about what falls within our scope.
At this time, we do not perform gynecologic surgery. Patients who need surgical intervention will be referred to a trusted surgical colleague. We also do not provide fertility services, pelvic ultrasound, or prenatal and pregnancy-related care.
What we do offer, we offer with depth and intention. If you are unsure whether your concern falls within our scope of practice, please review our Services Page.
If we find, after a visit, that we are unable to care for your specific needs, we are always happy to point you in the right direction, even if that means somewhere other than here.
-
Our pricing is available on our Membership Page, where you can review the costs of office visits, screening tests, procedures, and optional membership plans.
Please note that listed prices do not include additional laboratory or pathology testing. Depending on the testing provider and your insurance coverage, these services may be billed separately through insurance.
-
We provide care for a range of gynecologic and pelvic health concerns, including chronic pelvic pain, vulvar and vaginal disorders, sexual health concerns, perimenopause and menopause, and general gynecologic conditions.
You can find a more detailed list in the Conditions We Treat section of our Services Page.

Conversations with Dr. K is a monthly gathering, in person or virtual, where we set aside the exam room and simply talk.
Each session focuses on a topic in gynecologic and women's health, including menopause, uterine fibroids, PMDD and PCOS, pelvic floor health, nutrition, sexual wellness, and more. These are conversations that rarely get enough time in a clinical appointment and that many women have never had the opportunity to have at all.
Sessions are open to anyone curious about their health, whether or not you are a patient of the practice. Come with your questions, your experiences, and your skepticism. This is a space for honest, evidence-based conversation without judgment, without rushing, and without the constraints of a fifteen-minute appointment.
Please note that Conversations with Dr. K is an educational forum and does not constitute personal medical advice. The information shared is intended to inform and empower, not replace the individualized care of your own physician. If something discussed raises a concern specific to your health, we encourage you to bring it into a one-on-one appointment where it can be addressed properly.

At Althea Gynecology & Pelvic Health, we believe that therapeutic tools for pelvic and sexual health should be easy to access, demystified, and chosen with good information behind them.
Our office carries a curated selection of vibrators, sexual wellness devices, and vaginal dilators, available for you to see, hold, and ask questions about during your visit. These tools can play a meaningful role in the treatment of conditions including vaginismus, pelvic floor dysfunction, genitourinary syndrome of menopause, dyspareunia (pain with intercourse), and vulvovaginal atrophy.
We want you to feel confident in what you are purchasing and how to use it.
All products are available for purchase directly from our office. Practice members receive a discount on purchases.
If you have questions about which device or dilator may be appropriate for your specific needs, we are happy to discuss this as part of a dedicated sexual health visit.
